Bond’s reputation for flexibility and a willingness to undertake different projects has resulted in a number of special commissions for geodesic domes in recent years. These have ranged from structures with a 4m span up to a 28m diameter dome with 360 triangles. We make complete Geodesic domes and dome covers to our own designs or to customer specification and design as required. The large domes have had uses as diverse as venues for music festivals such as Glastonbury and visitor centres at a stately home; the smaller sizes for a travelling theatre and for various exhibitions and promotional events.

The larger Geodesic dome frames have been made from steel or aluminium tubes with steel plate connectors at the nodes while the smaller sizes have been ash poles with heavy-duty polyethylene connectors. We would generally recommend using a 650 gram welded PVC fabric for the domes but have also used woven fabrics which are then stitched. Our usual range of colours is available including blackout materials.

In addition to the ‘frame and cover’ domes, we have now launched our own 9m hemispherical geo dome based on a radical new panellised design. Unlike conventional geodesic domes this new dome consists of individual hardwood framed triangular panels pre-covered in PVC that bolt together to form the complete structure..

This Geodesic system has two major advantages. Firstly, the individual panels (which can be plain, or can contain a door or a window) can be positioned anywhere on the structure, giving total flexibility. With the same set of triangles, windows can be put at ground level, in the roof, spread over the surface or concentrated in one area. Secondly, panels can be made in any number of different colours, allowing the creation of a huge variety of pattern combinations for maximum impact. Panels can also be personalised with names and logos very cost effectively, or made in company colours, making the dome ideal for corporate promotions.

The individually covered panels give the dome a really crisp and elegant appearance on the outside and create a roomy and atmospheric interior space with a spectacular geometric lattice of timber struts. This Geodesic dome is suitable for temporary use but also as a semi-permanent structure, for example as a visitor centre or exhibition venue.

The dome fits into a four metre Luton box van. It is supplied with four simple lifting hoists which make it straightforward to erect with four people without any extra equipment.
